The
Engine Control Module (ECM) is an integral part of the electrical system in most modern vehicles. The ECM, also known as the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), utilizes a network of sensors throughout the vehicle to properly regulate the combination of fuel, air, and spark. That's putting it simply, of course. In the event that something does go wrong, the ECM will log a code associated with the problem that can be read with a specialized scanner. The ECM is also typically involved in regulating features such as cruise control, theft protection, and anti-skid brakes.
While it is sometimes possible to repair a faulty ECM with the proper skills and tools, an ECM can be damaged beyond repair. All of the ECM/PCM/ECU computers available on our website are new OEM factory surplus, and not remanufactured (repaired). There is no core charge when you purchase an EMC from SMC Performance and Auto Parts.

All computers will require programming to your vehicle VIN#. We do not program vehicle computers, but can recommend a couple bench top programmers other than your GM dealer for some of the computers we sell. If you would like a recommendation on a programmer, please mention this in your order notes at the time of purchase and we will include a list with your order.
